Safety Director & Safety Person of the Year Awarded During the Safety Congress

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Richardson, Texas - Approximately 60-member company safety professionals gathered at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans to participate in the association’s 22nd Annual Safety Congress. The annual event is a venue for construction industry safety personnel to network, share creative training concepts, discuss trends and to hear from leading safety training consultants, other safety directors and risk management executives.
The highlight of the meeting was the awarding of the 2016 Safety Director and Safety Person of the Year awards by DCA President Dale Mykyte.
The Safety Director of the Year award was given to Chris Moulden of ARB Inc. in Lake Forrest, California. Moulden has been the Corporate Safety Director for ARB for 1 ½ years and in the safety industry for 15 years and has played an important role in the safety performance of ARB in 2016. When he took the position of Corporate ARB Safety Director, he did an overall risk assessment and gap analysis in his first few weeks of being employed. From there, Moulden designed a (back to the basics) road map for 2016 and with the help of his inherited team they have accomplished big things. Chris has taken the reins of being the safety director and has ran with it while understanding that all business is relationship based. He is a results oriented safety director that identifies gaps and assists with or finds solutions.
The Safety Person of the Year award was awarded to Charles Arnold, Teamster for Southeast Directional Drilling in Casa Grande, Arizona and has worked for the company for 3 years. Though Arnold’s title does not require him to be a safety representative, he always goes above and beyond to put safety at the forefront of all job tasks.
This year’s event was well received by those in attendance and included presentations from: Rich McElhaney of Allied Insurance Brokers, Chuck Simpson of EPIC and speaker Lee Shelby. There were also numerous discussions and networking about creative training approaches and a wrap up and planning session for 2018. Next year’s Safety Congress will be held March 26-28 in New Orleans, Louisiana. DCA wishes to thank the 2017 Safety Congress Co-Chairmen: Skip Parry of Otis Eastern Service in Wellsville, New York and Jeremy Wyatt of Miller Pipeline in Indianapolis, Indiana for their efforts in organizing this year’s Safety Congress.
