Safety excellence was recognized at the February 2017 DCA Annual Convention, where companies were rewarded for the effectiveness of their safety programs.
The DCA established the Arthur T. Everham Safety Award in 1986 to recognize contractors with exceptional safety programs. Judging criteria includes: the number of OSHA lost workday cases, number of OSHA restricted duty days, number of first-aid cases, number of fatalities, the presence of a documented safety program, the use of a drug-testing program, and the company’s Experience Modification Rate.
The award is highly coveted as winners are recognized and honored by competitors. For 2016, the categories awarded were:
In the category of less than 160,000 man hours: First Place was H & H Enterprises, Andover, Ohio. For Second Place there was a four-way tie: Alvah Contractors, South San Francisco, California; Atlas Trenchless, Rockville, Minnesota; Mid America Underground, Aurora, Illlinois and R.L. Coolsaet Construction, Taylor, Michigan.
