Mission/Charter Statement:

The mission of the DCA Trenchless/HDD Committee is to identify, discuss, and work toward resolutions of member issues and needs related to trenchless construction. Through education and awareness initiatives, the Committee intends to share best practices for state of the art trenchless & HDD technologies to contractors, customers, and governing agencies for underground infrastructure installation worldwide.

  • Implemented the new working committee structure and formed (5) subcommittees with co-chairs, based on survey and other input from committee members:

  • Continued focus on Subcommittee’s driving actionable change in the Trenchless & HDD industry.
  • Safety Subcommittee presentation at Midyear or Fall

  • Consider including local Utility Representatives to give insight into regional trenchless initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue tangible and quantifiable actions that benefit Contractor and Associate DCA Members:
    • Work with Operator/Owner groups, outside of currently regulated entities, regarding how to elevate the quality and care of non-Association (DCA, PCCA, DPI, CGA, etc.) contractors. Focusing on damage prevention.
    • Bring new technologies, opportunities, and ideas to be discussed. i.e.: borehole planning, electrification, hydrogen-blending, carbon capture, drilling fluid management, tooling, etc.
    • Continue reinforcing the wholistic “Trenchless” aspect of this Committee.
      Collaboration with NASTT to include DCA representation on NASTT Committee to redevelop the HDD Good Practices Course
    • Collaboration with AGA to include DCA representation at the AGA Trenchless Workshop
    • Maintain the DCA Trenchless microsite for HDD and other Trenchless Technologies
    • Maintain efforts engaging State and Federal Lobbying.

Charge: To support safety, training, technical developments, and voluntary operational guidelines that sustain professional practices and contractors in trenchless technology and HDD. The committee also helps to coordinate a DCA session for conferences such as UIC (Underground Infrastructure Conference) and the Utility Expo.

Composition: The Co-chairs of each committee are appointed by the President at the Mid Year Meeting. The position of co-chairmen alternate every two years between contractor members and associate members. Members of the committee are self selecting, though the President can appoint members to the committee.
